About the New York City Area
Alpha Omicron Pi Alumnae Chapter!
The first alumnae chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi was founded in New York City in 1904 by the founders and earliest members of the collegiate fraternity, which had been founded in 1897 at Barnard College, now a part of Columbia University. By the end of the century, the AOII NYC Alumnae Chapter had become inactive, so an organizational meeting was held in 1993 at the home of Diane Sandoval to initiate the re-chartering of the chapter, and a petition was sent to International Headquarters. In August 1995, the requirements for re-chartering had been completed and the new Charter was bestowed upon the chapter at a formal ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, attended by representatives from International Headquarters and other area collegiate and alumnae chapters. Two years later, the AOII NYC Alumnae Chapter hosted the Alpha Omicron Pi Centennial Celebration Convention at the same location.
As AOII Sisters, we recognize that sisterhood is a lifelong process. The AOII NYC Area Alumnae Chapter exists to continue to foster that bond created between you and AOII as a collegiate member. The chapter plans a wide variety of programs and events throughout the year to meet a wide range of interests and schedules. Some events are open to members only, and others are open to family and friends. We welcome sisters of all ages, from recent graduates to members of the 50-Year Club and beyond. The NYC Area Alumnae chapter serves New York City, including the boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens (a separate Staten Island chapter exists). We are also convenient to members who live outside the area, such as residents of Hoboken and Jersey City, but commute to NYC for work.
